  3. 'A Billion Lives' Film Review

In relation to the new documentary on smoking cessation, 'A Billion Lives', the old saying "where there's smoke, there's usually fire" has never been a more appropriate. Earlier this week, I attended the San Diego premiere of the documentary by first-time filmmaker Aaron Biebert. The film presents the complex issues surrounding smoking cessation and the challenges millions of people around the world face who continue to use cigarettes which are known to kill at least half the people who are addicted to them. The film presents a series of compelling stories from doctors, health industry insiders, global policy makers, individual smokers and vapers, small business owners, and even former "Winston Man", David Goerlitz, who watched his brother die of lung cancer before deciding to quit smoking himself and end his advocacy for the tobacco industry. The film offers plausible explanations as to why viable smoking alternatives like vaping are being targeted with false and misleading studies and advertisements and how both the medical industry and public are becoming less informed about the real potential benefits and risks associated with vaping for no good reason.

  5. "Beyond the Cloud" a Vaping Documentary Review

If you are a vaper, you have probably heard about documentaries like Vape Wave and A Billion Lives. While we wait for these films to become available for public viewing, another documentary called "Beyond the Cloud" by VapeExpo in France was released in its entirety for free viewing on YouTube. Despite it's being in French with subtitles, we think it is well done, informative, balanced, and well worth a watch. Dealing with the complex issues surrounding vaping, harm reduction, regulation, and public misperceptions about vaping, Beyond the Cloud offers informative interviews with policy makers and vaping advocates to tell a complete picture of the problem without bashing any one side.

  6. Vaping Regulations Must Be Redesigned, Analysts Say

As the FDA continues to move forward on its newly announced vaping regulations, controversy continues as to the effect these rules will have on the industry. The more the regulations are analyzed, the more the outlines (as to the pros and cons) emerge. In light of the heavy online and broadcast media campaigns against vaping presented by well-funded special interest groups, the public deserves to be made equally aware of insights into policy arguments against a burdensome and flawed regulatory regime.

  7. Five Pawns Adheres to FDA Packaging Compliance

On July 22, 2016, a letter from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) was released containing revisions to The Child Nicotine Poisoning Prevention Act of 2015 (CNPPA). In a previous letter, CPSC stated, "Beginning on July 26, 2016, the sale of liquid nicotine in non-compliant containers is prohibited." The revised guidelines states that this requirement applies to products packaged after the effective date of July 26, 2016, as well as all existing inventory.

  8. Why We Are Here: Harm Reduction

Times are changing fast for the vaping industry and, as a result, transparency and brutal honesty are required now more than ever. The people here at Five Pawns think it’s time we grew up as an industry and focused less on the circus of rebellion and more on all of the good we can do collectively if the world had a better sense of what vaping means to ex-smokers. We believe we have to elevate our discourse and behavior to be taken more seriously. The more seriously we are taken, the more people will understand the logic of our position. The more people hear and understand our position, commitment, and passion, the more good we can do together.
