Comparing Max VG vs. 50/50 Vape Juice
Comparing Max VG vs. 50/50 Vape JuiceSeptember 6th, 2018
Aside from the flavor, the characteristic of an e-liquid that most affects the vaping experience is its PG/VG ratio – and when it comes to PG/VG ratios, you have more choices now than ever before. Overall, the tastes of the vaping community have trended toward thicker e-liquids over the years. While most e-liquids once had only a small amount of VG – or none at all – 50/50 blends are the thinnest e-liquids you’re likely to find today.
At the other end of the spectrum, you’ll find Max VG e-liquids. Max VG e-liquids are the thickest vape juices on the market, and they’re popular among those who use very powerful vaping devices. Max VG e-liquids are also perfect for the few people who suffer from allergies to PG – but what is the perfect e-liquid blend for you? That’s what we’ll discuss in this article comparing Max VG vs. 50/50 vape juice.
What Is Max VG E-Liquid?
To understand Max VG e-liquid, the first thing you need to know is that the vaping industry has no standards in place defining what the term “Max VG” actually means. In general, though, the term means one of three things:
- The e-liquid contains absolutely no PG. To create the e-liquid, the maker used only flavoring compounds with VG or alcohol as carriers. Note that a properly steeped e-liquid will have no alcohol taste when you receive it.
- The e-liquid contains no PG except that used as a carrier for the flavoring compounds.
- The e-liquid’s maker added PG to the e-liquid to achieve the desired performance or flavor characteristics but used as little PG as possible.
Unless you have a PG allergy, you don’t need to worry about the differences between the three definitions above. Functionally, all Max VG e-liquids are virtually indistinguishable from one another. If you do have a PG allergy, you should communicate with the manufacturer before buying any Max VG e-liquid to determine whether the e-liquid contains trace PG. If you aren’t sure whether you have a PG allergy or not, you probably don’t. Since many cosmetics, foods and other products contain PG, you come into contact with it constantly. If you were allergic to PG, you would already know. Ask your doctor if you aren’t sure.
Why Do People Use Max VG E-Liquid?
Max VG e-liquid is very thick. It creates a full, creamy vapor with a voluptuous feel in the mouth. Since Max VG e-liquid produces such thick vapor, switching from a 50/50 e-liquid to a Max VG e-liquid will increase the perceived vapor production of your vaping setup. To have the best possible experience with Max VG e-liquid, though, you’ll need a powerful vaping device. While PG has a boiling point of 370.8 degrees Fahrenheit, the boiling point of VG is 554 degrees. A low-power vaping device will have difficulty generating a significant amount of vapor with a Max VG e-liquid.
Improved vapor production isn’t the only reason why people use Max VG e-liquids. A Max VG blend also:
- Tastes sweet because VG has a sweet flavor. VG enhances the flavor profile of any sweet e-liquid.
- Provides a smooth vaping experience because, compared to PG, VG produces little throat hit.
- May improve the performance of a vaping setup that operates at a very high wattage. A high-power vaping device might burn through PG quickly, producing dry hits as a result. VG takes a little longer to vaporize due to its higher boiling point.
Why Do People Use 50/50 E-Liquid?
An e-liquid with a 50/50 PG/VG blend is a compromise that gives you some of the benefits of both VG and PG. From the VG, you get the sweetness, the full mouth feel and the excellent vapor production. From the PG, you get a more clearly defined flavor profile and a more assertive throat hit.
The other major benefit of 50/50 e-liquid is that it’s significantly less viscous than Max VG e-liquid. Max VG e-liquid doesn’t work with every vaping device. It requires a vaping setup that includes a rebuildable atomizer or a sub-ohm tank with very large wick openings. It also requires an atomizer coil that can reach high temperatures. If you use a Max VG e-liquid with something small like a pod vaping device, you’ll have a poor experience. The e-liquid will have difficulty getting through your atomizer coil’s small wick openings, and you’ll get dry hits. Since you’ll also singe your coil’s cotton wick each time you get a dry hit, you’ll reduce your coil’s life.
Unlike Max VG e-liquids, 50/50 e-liquids work with virtually every vaping device on the market. You can use a 50/50 e-liquid with a small all-in-one device or pod vaping system without worrying about dry hits. Even of you use a more powerful vaping system, though, a 50/50 e-liquid contains enough VG that you don’t have to worry about burning through it and drying out your wick.
